"We can't handle a monster every week!"

―Aide Toriyama referring to the appearance of Gudon, Our Wings

"I know this young man, Mirai Hibino. He's awkward, but he tries harder than anyone. He's kinder and more honest than anyone!... He is my irreplaceable subordinate!"

―Toriyama standing up for Mirai, Advent of the Emperor -Final Trilogy I-

Juukichi Toriyama (トリヤマ・ジュウキチ, Toriyama Jūkichi) is the aide (補佐官, hosokan) of the Japanese branch of GUYS.

Personality[]

Toriyama possesses a relatively conservative personality while also exhibiting a mix of stubbornness and a curious nature. He highly values public attention and often places his personal interests first, tending to avoid unnecessary controversies and conflicts, adhering to a principle of "avoiding trouble."

Furthermore, at times he displays tendencies of carelessness and overconfidence, frequently making serious mistakes during critical moments and subsequently having to seek assistance from other GUYS members. Due to the frequency of such occurrences, his fellow teammates sometimes regard him as somewhat unreliable, timid, and overly cautious. Despite this, he still bravely takes up command responsibilities during emergencies, issuing clear instructions. This showcases his role as a senior GUYS officer and highlights his commitment to justice. He consistently steps up in times of crisis, willingly takes on responsibilities, and provides clear guidance.

Throughout the series, Toriyama often garners attention. He tends to be proactive in facing media interviews, but in moments of heightened emotions, he might act impulsively, regardless of others' reactions. Sometimes, he unintentionally leaks sensitive information or makes inappropriate comments, indicating a lack of caution in his actions. While he plays a crucial leadership role within the organization, there are instances where he deviates in handling details.

However, he can be open-minded to some degree, such as allowing Konomi to keep Lim Eleking as GUYS's mascot after it was deemed harmless or treating the Alien Fanton as a guest upon learning he was looking for food. When encountering a critical situation, he would also withdraw all his cowardice and laziness, seen during the operations against Oshima Comet fragments and Alien Empera.

History[]

Pre-Ultraman Mebius[]

In the past, Toriyama once joined TDF and participated in ground attacks against Star Bem Gyeron during his time as a rookie.

Due to the fact that aside from Ultras from space, most other aliens beings that come to Earth are essentially here for "invasion," he is aware of the prevalent bias among the general public that associates "aliens" with "invaders", with the encounter with false peaceful beings such as Alien Zarab and Alien Pedan further contributed to this paranoia. After the establishment of GUYS, he also joined the organization.

In his personal life, he met his wife during his youth. They now have a large family, including grandchildren. In a photo of him with his family, he is seen with a warm and gentle smile on his face, especially when interacting with his grandson.

Currently, Toriyama holds the position of aide at GUYS JAPAN, a role second only to the seldom-seen Director and Deputy Director Misaki. Within GUYS, he holds a middle management position primarily responsible for issuing key directives. Simultaneously serving as GUYS' spokesperson, he frequently participates in press conferences, explaining GUYS' actions to the media. Furthermore, he handles behind-the-scenes tasks such as securing budgets, formulating regional evacuation plans, and hosting friendly extraterrestrial visitors to Earth.

However, due to Earth having remained free from monster attacks for 25 years, he contemplates retirement. Yet, on a particular day, while he was unwinding with Secretary Aide Maru on the golf course, he received communication from Misaki, informing him of a monster with the codename "Dinozaur" approaching Earth. GUYS units from various countries had already received orders to engage.

Following the destruction of the V77 satellite, GUYS headquarters decided to entrust subsequent response missions to GUYS JAPAN. Toriyama subsequently conveyed Dinozaur's weakness to the actively engaged GUYS team members. Despite it being their team's first real battle, he remained confident in GUYS' capabilities. However, when he received news of the complete annihilation of the entire team, he fell into a state of emotional distress. This failure was a heavy blow to him.A Fateful Encounter

Following Ultraman Mebius successful repulsion of Dinozaur after his appearance on Earth, the members of the newly formed GUYS gathered. As most of the members in this new team came from civilian professions, Toriyama initially held reservations about their abilities and trustworthiness. However, through collaborative mission accomplishments, the members gradually built sincere bonds of trust. Our Wings

Initially, Toriyama had the authority to use the "METEOR" and later delegated that command to Sakomizu.Broken Bonds

When Alien Fanton first visited Earth, despite his initial wariness, he warmly received the visitor after confirming their friendly stance and provided a hearty meal in the cafeteria. However, when Alien Fanton attempted to gulp down the entire plate in one go, Toriyama had to make an effort to handle this awkward situation. He utilized six months' worth of GUYS cafeteria vouchers to cover all the expenses. Once the issue was resolved, he received gratitude from Alien Fanton and was gifted a "C-Pin 929," which could be used for a year's worth of meals. However, he seems unable to accept this gift.Fanton's Lost Item

Toriyama lost the capsule containing Kodaigon cells while delivering a mission.

During a summons by the Director, Toriyama was granted access to the Director's office for the first time. Under Misaki's assignment, he was tasked with transporting an object referred to as "something" during its research phase, which was deemed dangerous, to a processing facility. However, on the way, Toriyama stopped and drank a beverage from the anti-nausea vehicle and accidentally dropped one of the items contained within the box, which held the "dangerous material," into the river. He continued the mission, using the excuse "one missing won't matter."

Upon returning to the base after completing the task, he overheard GUYS members discussing the danger of the capsules and learned that the capsule actually contained Kodaigon cells capable of turning non-organic matter into monsters. Toriyama felt immense anxiety. Due to the extreme peril, he directed Mirai, Teppei, and Konomi to undertake a "top-secret mission" to discreetly retrieve the capsules.

Later, when they finally located the capsules, Toriyama feeling extremely excited, accidentally dropped and shattered one of the capsules again. The released Kodaigon cells then attached themselves to the Ebisu statue, transforming into Kodaigon The Other.

After Mebius resolved the incident, Sakomizu casually remarked that "failure on the first mission is quite common," and Toriyama's embarrassing actions eventually became known to the entire GUYS team. The First Errand

Toriyama is briefly controlled by Insectus.

During a press conference, he introduced Teppei, a member who played a crucial role in the Insectus battles, to the media. Unexpectedly, this led to Teppei contemplating leaving GUYS, and an incident ensued after Toriyama stepped on a mysterious slime during the event. Amidst this, a small purple insect emerged from the slime, crawled onto Toriyama's ear, causing him to be possessed by Insectus and exhibit violent behavior. Subsequently, Insectus transferred into Teppei's mother, restoring Toriyama to normal. One Path

"The cooling system's maxed out! We are at the limit for continuous fire!"
"The Earth's in danger! Push the cooling to the max! I will buy a new one if it breaks!"

―Konomi and Toriyama.

Toriyama directly led the operation against fragments of Oshima Comet, showing his serious side for the first time.

However, he also demonstrated exceptional swordsmanship skills, not only showcasing remarkable sword techniques during training with Maru but also displaying a courageous demeanor unlike his usual self.

When the Oshima Comet's fragments were in sight, which would lead to a devastating impact on Earth, as well as two aliens suddenly showed up. Toriyama completely withdrew all his cowardice and promptly took charge of the operation to obliterate the comet's fragments. Together with Maru and Misaki, they successfully helped the Crew deploy two Silver Shark G turrets while commanding Mirai to chase down the aliens.

Toriyama has proved himself to be a surprisingly competent leader, efficiently getting the Silver Shark G activated on time. With Mebius's help and Ryu and George to took control, the incoming fragments were destroyed one after another. When Konomi warned that the turret's cooling system had reached its limitation, he hysterically commanded it to keep on firing, must defending the Earth at all costs.

Their effort eventually paid off, with the largest one being destroyed by George, and the crisis was neutralized. A Sword Master from Space

In a media interview after the battle against Daigarugu, he accidentally divulged confidential information about the METEOR project. Consequently, he received a stern reprimand from Misaki. To evade Mirai's supervision, he used the excuse of feeling unwell and asked Maru to represent him in inspecting the "Hameln project" while he was playing golf on the roof. Nonetheless, this tactic was ultimately uncovered by GUYS members (except Mirai).

After the incident during the experiment, his true intention in the interview was explained to Misaki by Maru: that he wished to tell the press the Crew was risking their lives against all the odds. He was called to the director's office, only to be told that he was out again. However, Captain Sakomizu, who happened to be in the office with Misaki instead, left him a message from the director, including: "You have exceptionally skilled subordinates; they must have been won over by your character. Please share these valuable experiences and your spirit of inclusivity with the young members of GUYS JAPAN," much to his joy. Connecting Message

In order to address the long-delayed Prototype Maquette Kaiju report, he proposed conducting a simulated battle within the virtual space of the Prototype Maquette Kaiju and sought the assistance of the GUYS team members. However, while the team competed for the Kaiju capsule, Toriyama accidentally dropped the Maquette Zetton capsule, resulting in data corruption. This led Zetton to become a computer virus and go on a rampage within the virtual space, causing a serious incident.Champion of the Fierce Fight

Toriyama shows off his magazine interview to GUYS members.

As GUYS gained recognition for its growing capabilities, Toriyama participated in numerous magazine interviews, which made him somewhat arrogant. He even made a statement, "It would be better if all aliens disappeared!" This angered Alien Psychokino Kako who was present at the scene. Consequently, he was stripped of his pants and suspended in the air, enduring public humiliation under Kako's abilities.

A few days later, upon learning that Kako's true identity was revealed as an alien, he and Maru attempted to tie her up with a rope. However, Kako reversed their efforts and teleported them to Antarctica, leaving them facing the harsh cold. Fortunately, with Mirai's persuasion, Kako eventually returned him to Japan.Mirai's Younger Sister

Toriyama rejects Shiki's order to extradite Mirai.

Moments before the impending final battle, he and Maru were inspecting an overseas base, leaving him unaware of the events occurring within Japan. However, upon his return to the base, he learned about the revelation that Mitsuhiko Hirukawa had leaked to the Japanese media about Mirai's true identity as Ultraman Mebius. Subsequently, Shiki, representing the Japanese government, personally visited the base to request Mirai's extradition, revealing the full truth to Toriyama.

Nevertheless, when Shiki attempted to take the unconscious Mirai away, Toriyama unhesitatingly protected Mirai. He did not cower due to Shiki's status but resolutely defended Mirai. He declared that while Mirai might be a somewhat naive young man, he was harder working, kinder, and more sincere than anyone else. He was an irreplaceable outstanding team member, and his words successfully convinced Shiki.

Right after Sakomizu revealed his true identity, he respectfully addressed him as "Director" and, along with other team members, worked together to save the Earth from the threat of Alien Empera.Advent of the Emperor -Final Trilogy I-

When Kako, who had come to Earth to assist, was caught in an attack, he didn't hesitate to risk himself to rescue her. This act improved their relationship. Moreover, when humanity faced obstacles in their resistance and Mebius disappeared, he steadfastly held onto the belief of "not allowing anyone to become a sacrifice" and persisted in continuing the fight.Dark Clouds of Despair -Final Trilogy II-

After the defeat of Alien Empera, as Mirai departed from Earth, tears welled up in Toriyama's eyes as he bid him farewell alongside the rest of the GUYS team.Words from the Heart -Final Trilogy III-
