Bundar (ブンダー, Bundā) is a monster that appeared in Ultraman Dyna.

Subtitle: Baroque Monster (バロック怪獣, Barokku Kaijū)

History[]

Ultraman Dyna[]

Bundar was the product of a writer and alchemist, Hiroya Narumi's mind, from a screenplay he wrote that had come to life as his wish was to make the whole world a stage for his play. An actor in a "Kaiju Play" had come running out of a theater, screaming that a Kaiju was about to appear. Just then, Bundar materialized from a dark cloud, appearing as a Tower of Babel-like structure, landing in the middle of town after a man ran through the streets screaming, then collapsed. Investigation only brought one thing, the name of a monster named Bundar. As Super GUTS examined Hiroya's files at his mansion, they discovered files with drawings of themselves, as well as drawings identical to what had happened in real life. Unknown to them, something was watching them through a teddy bear sitting nearby, its eyes flashing red. Meanwhile, Bundar's head emerged and Shin Asuka accidentally stepped through a door that led into a strange dimension. The actor finally emerged from his state of shock, revealing he was an actor who worked under Hiroya, who invited him to participate in a play involving monsters to star as the character Kaspar Hauser.

As one of the Super GUTS members read one of Hiroya's books, Bundar began attacking the city with its tentacles until Super GUTS arrived to attack the Kaiju. The actor suddenly remembered part of the play, a scene where a Baroque pearl was extracted from the charatcer's brain to be used in creating the Kaiju that Hiroya wished for, by processing it through alchemy. He also remembered that after the rehearsal, Hiroya sealed the ending of the play and was left unfinished forever, and he then disappeared. As Super GUTS assaulted the monster, only resulting in it changing to its true self and attacking the city. Meanwhile, the events of the Hiroya's script continued to act themselves out in real life, resulting in Bundar shooting down Super GUTS fighters.

Meanwhile, Asuka found himself strapped to a table by Hiroya and his accomplice. Luckily for Asuka, the sealed ending of the story was rediscovered by placing a reflective foil at the center of the play script, showing that Ultraman Dyna would confront Bundar, instantly freeing Asuka and allowing him to transform and appear to fight Bundar. Hiroya sealed this part of the play on purpose because he knew that Dyna would eventually come and destroy his monster. Dyna fired the Solgent Beam but the monster's hide protected it. Meanwhile, while the two battled back and forth, Super GUTS spun the foil of the book, first causing Dyna to repeatedly kick Bundar in the head, then causing Bundar to end up impaling itself with its tentacle making it destroy itself.

Even with Bundar gone, Hiroya Narumi may already be writing another Kaiju Play, in a world locked between dreams and reality.

Trivia[]

  • Suit actor: Toshio Miyake.
  • Bundar's roars were reused from Silvergon.
  • The supposed alchemical process used to create has some similarities to the creation of a Homunculus.
  • The process of Bundar's creation formed the basis of the spawning of the Kaiju of both SSSS.GRIDMAN and SSSS.DYNAZENON, both of which used baroque pearls as the "seeds" that would grow into Kaiju.

Stats
  • Height: 65 m
  • Weight: 56,000 t
  • Origin: "Monster Drama" Land
  • Weakness: Bundar is bound to the screenplay it came from. Since the ending inevitably has Ultraman Dyna show up and defeat Bundar, Hiroya Narumi intentionally sealed off the ending of the play so it would go on without an ending. It can also end up killing itself if the foil accompanying the screenplay book gets spun around the center, altering the image and therefore the events in real life, causing Bundar to destroy itself.
Powers and Weapons
  • Dimensional Portal: Bundar can open dimensional portals to travel long distances. While doing this he is in a cocoon.
  • Body Tentacles: Bundar can create extending tentacles from his body. Without his cocoon form he can turn his entire body into a tentacle.
  • Dimensional Lightning: Bundar can summon lightning through its dimensional portal to reactivate himself and attack enemies.
  • Armor: Bundar has thick armor, allowing him to stand up to attacks like Ultraman Dyna's Solgent Beam without even flinching.
  • Reality Warp: By appearing in this dimension, Bundar causes events to follow the screenplay he came from.
  • Energy Bolts: Bundar can fire missile-strength bolts of energy from his arms. These bolts will arch up and then fall onto opponents.
