Capsule Kaiju are self-compact capsules made under the technology of the Land of Light. First appearing in Ultraseven, they are used by the titular hero himself as his alternative to fight monsters and aliens, usually with little success. Despite their less than stellar track record, Seven continues to utilize them on certain occasions. There are also other cases of Capsule Kaiju and its similar contemporaries appearing in the Ultraman Series' succeeding media.

History

Ultraseven

The first recorded deployment of a Capsule Kaiju was Windom against Alien Cool's saucer, which was also the first day of Seven's first appearance to the human population. Other Capsule Kaiju would appear later in the series, Miclas being not long after that and Agira as the final member of the trio at some point after that. All of the Kaiju in Seven's possessions are natives from his home Nebula M78; namely Planet Metal, Planet Buffalo and Planet Animal respectively. Originally, there were five capsules shown, but only three were shown materialized as Kaiju. One of those Kaiju that did not materialize was used by Dan in Alien Icarus' dimension, but it did not work and was lost there. The first known casualty of Dan's Capsule Kaiju was Windom, who was outsmarted by the Alien Guts before being killed by their flying saucer.

The☆Ultraman

Monsters under the Heller Empire's ownership, Gumons and Caperadon, are referred to as Capsule Kaiju in their subtitle. Despite this, they were not deployed through the same means as Dan's Capsule Kaiju, but rather stored in a rocket-like capsules and deployed from Heller Empire's resources as biological weapons against Ultraman Joneus, the Science Guard Party and Earth's population as a whole.

Ultraman Zearth 2: Superhuman Big Battle - Light and Shadow

Because the Ultraman Series is partly a work of fiction in this universe, the Capsule Kaiju technology is also made known to the new members of Mydo.

After suffering from a humiliating defeat, Katsuto Asahi lost his will to transform and resigned to train as part of improving himself. His father from his home world gave him a Capsule Kaiju that allowed him to summon Miraclon. Likewise, Lady Benzene had once procure Darklar for her own use and installed into Ultraman Shadow. When Shadow began his brainwashing spree on the town's population, Katsuto summoned Miraclon, while Shadow responded by summoning Darklar. Miraclon managed to score its winning record by throwing Darklar against its master, but Shadow retaliated by throwing several punches, forcing Katsuto to have it retreat out of safety.

Heisei Ultraseven

In an alternate standalone spin-off of Ultraseven, the Capsule Kaiju technology can act as a healing chamber, allowing the previously defeated Windom to be healed again. The alternate Dan Moroboshi stored Masaki Kazamori within one of his spare capsules after the young UG cadet was injured in the fight against Alien Valkyrie. Windom was first summoned to scare off Alien Remojo by "Kazamori". Later on he was summoned again alongside Miclas to stall Zabangi from preventing the UG in broadcasting the Omega Files. Before Seven would return to his home planet to receive his punishment, he returned Kazamori to his teammates, now fully healed after a period of a year in his capsule. It is implied but never fully confirmed in the Evolution miniseries, that as an effect long term his stay in that capsule Kazamori inherited bits of Seven's powers through their link. This would become crucial in receiving Seven's muon communication before their eventual fusion.

Ultraman Mebius

Although they never encountered Dan's Capsule Kaiju technology, old databanks from various defense teams, including the Ultra Guard, managed to archive Windom and Miclas' involvement as monsters that were actually heroes to mankind, as well as their short active time limits. It was these Kaiju that they re-created with Maquette Kaiju technology. A nanite based METEOR technology with a similar time limit.

Ultra Galaxy Mega Monster Battle: Never Ending Odyssey

Out of gratitude for saving him from the Armored Darkness, Seven temporarily lent Miclas to Rei's Battlenizer, replacing the Eleking that he lost beforehand. Miclas would eventually return once the treat against Alien Reiblood was dealt with.

Trapped in the frozen Land of Light and stuck in his human form, Dan summoned his Capsule Kaiju to deal with Alien Shaplay and his monsters. Together, Miclas, Windom and Agira actually scored their first on-screen success against their opponents before they retreated.

Ultraman X

While explaining to Daichi Oozora about the existence of heroic monsters, Hikaru Raido and Sho brought up Seven and his Capsule Kaiju as prime examples before switching over to Ultraman Cosmos.

Seven summoned his Capsule Kaiju on Planet Babel as additional reinforcements in against the Absolute Soldiers.

Darkness Heels Lilli

In this manga, Belial noted that the Capsule Kaiju were created by and for the Survey Corp (the Fixed Point Observers like Seven was), who in general were not fighters and so used the Capsule Kaiju as a means to defend themselves.

Variations and similar technology

Kaiju Ball

A similar type of technology also developed in the Land of Light, the Kaiju Ball is a small rugby-shaped capsule which contained Sevenger. It was delivered to Earth during the events of Ultraman Leo by Ultraman Jack to Dan as a compensation for his damaged Ultra Eye, only to come across Ashuran and almost lost the item on Earth. When summoned by Dan, Sevenger managed to deal fatal blows against the two-faced monster and almost won had its period of one minute never ended, allowing Ashuran to recover and retreat.

In certain magazines, the Kaiju Ball is still regarded as the same technology with the Capsule Kaiju, only different in physical appearance.

Maquette Kaiju

In Ultraman Mebius, Maquette Kaiju are Crew GUYS's answer to Ultraseven's Capsule Kaiju via their own technology, hence making it a part of the METEOR technology banner. Stored in capsules when not in use, they are copies of preexisting Kaiju manifested using particles called Maquette to materialize and fight the Kaiju attacks under the duration of a minute before they dissipated. Originally, two models were made, Miclas and Windom (again based on Seven's own monsters) and they would later on receive upgrades from feedback data of past Kaiju added to their attributes. GUYS' headquarters also commissioned Proto-Maquette Kaiju to be made and evaluated by Toriyama, but GUYS Japan's evaluation and the rampage of their Maquette Zetton forced them to consider sticking to the main two Kaiju in the end.

Battlenizer

The Battlenizers used by Reionics act as both containers and healing chambers for their Kaiju when not in battle. When deployed, Reionics use the Battlenizer to act as controllers for their Kaiju to combat against threats and/or fellow Reionics in battle.

Cyber Cards

The Cyber Cards in Ultraman X contain cyber copies of existing Kaiju that can be manifested through a Xio Devizer or X Devizer. In-universe, the only successful example of doing so was Cyber Gomora, created from Daichi's Gomora as a template.

Kaiju Cards

Counterparts of the Ultra Fusion Cards, the Kaiju Cards can manifest into any Kaiju it represents, provided that it was scanned by the Dark Ring.

Kaiju Capsules

Created by Kei Fukuide, the Kaiju Capsules used reverse-engineered technology from the Land of Light's own Ultra Capsules to store Kaiju essence into them. Provided that a single capsule is scanned by the Riser, this allows their user to summon its respective Kaiju to the battle. Multiple Kaiju of the same type can be summoned, provided that said capsules are present en-masse.

R/B Crystals

The Crystals collected by Saki Mitsurugi allows her to either transform or summon a corresponding Kaiju. The same can be said by Makoto Aizen/Cereza via his AZ Gyro.

Kaiju Ring

The Kaiju Ring are created after the Tri-Squad defeated a specific Kaiju. When used by Ultraman Taiga on his Taiga Spark, it allows him to copy their attacks, but through Ultraman Tregear's own powers, he is able to manifest them as his own summoned battalion.

Dimension Card Monsters

Exclusive to Ultraman Decker's hosts, users of Ultra D Flasher can scan the Mons Dimension Cards and summon its corresponding Dimension Card Monsters through the power of light as limited-time supporters against their opponents. Because of their limited operation time, each monsters have their One-Point Relief , spending their energy on a designated purpose before vanishing into Digital Particles . The only ones demonstrated to do so are Miclas, Windom and Agira, the same trio that makes up Seven's Capsule Kaiju.

• Capsule Kaiju was one of the several inspirations for the creation of the Pokémon franchise, inspiring aspects like a monster that is a friend and ally to a leader, the portable container it can be housed and summoned from, and the recall command of "Return!". Early iterations of Pokémon during the first stages of production even used the title "Capsule Monsters" for the series name before it was changed.
