"You're very important to the Earth. I want you to keep fighting for the Earth. So...So...So...I don't regret it at all."

―Emi Jono to Takeshi Yamato, "The Female Warrior of Ultra"

Emi Jono (城野 エミ, Jōno Emi) is one of the main characters of Ultraman 80. She was a member of UGM.

Personality[]

Initially, Emi did not show much of her personality. She was mainly responsible for communication and coordination work with a serious and calm attitude. During missions, she would also conduct investigations and attack monsters with courage and boundless goodwill.

In private, she also has a more cute and lively side. She interacts with her juniors based on her active experience on the front line, and treats other members with a gentle attitude. As the series progresses, she seems to have developed a fondness for Takeshi, and their interactions have become more enthusiastic than before.

History[]

Ultraman 80[]

Emi was born in Hokkaido. Her father is Dr. Shirono Jono, an authority on astrobiology. She joined UGM after training, albeit primarily as an operator at the UGM base, responsible for team communication. But she has the same first-class fighter pilot skills as the other members, so she is sometimes sent to the front to assist in missions. Her goal was to become the Women's Corps Director of UGM Europe's Paris branch. Since only a very small number of female trainees can become members of UGM, Emi is also the object of worship for every female trainee.

One day, Teruo Sera, a member of UGM's publicity department, rescued a space creature named Myu from the Monster Graveyard. Despite the team members' skepticism about Myu's presence, Emi regarded Myu as an equal life form and took care of him considerably. Later, based on the confirmation of Dr. Jono, an authority in space biology and Emi's father, Myu was identified as a gentle creature.

Emi took care of Myu with a gentle attitude and demeanor.

However, Dr. Kono's assistant, Nakagawa, saw Myu and attempted to use him as an experimental tool to enlarge and domesticate space creatures. This proposal was met with opposition from the team, strengthening Emi's determination to protect Myu. She along with Takeshi and Sera, tried to find ways to care for Myu, soothing the frightened creature by singing lullabies.

Late at night, Myu was abducted by Nakagawa and involuntarily transformed into a gigantic monster. Even when Myu reached a height of 2 meters, he still maintained a gentle demeanor. Emi was astonished by Myu's transformation into a giant when she searched for him. However, during Nakagawa's second experiment, Myu turned into a colossal monster and became ferocious due to side effects.

Emi managed to calm down the rampaging Myu.

Ito, Takeshi, and Emi went to the scene to deal with Myu, but Emi couldn't bring herself to attack because she cherished the bond between her and Myu. Although Takeshi transformed into Ultraman 80, he hesitated to attack actively. At that moment, Emi intervened to stop 80, hoping to prevent harm to Myu. Her love touched the ferocious Myu, and through a lullaby, Myu's demeanor was pacified. Subsequently, Myu reverted to his original gentle nature, and with Ultraman 80's beam, Myu was restored to his original size. Eventually, Myu's life was returned to the universe.

Since the middle of the series, she has often partnered with Takeshi on investigation missions. When she hears the conversation with Alien Zatan during a mission, she vaguely realizes Takeshi is the true identity of Ultraman 80. Lost Friend in the Desert

UGM detected an unidentified flying object in the sky and immediately headed to the Aokigahara forest near Mount Fuji. There, they were attacked by a mysterious fighter jet and discovered a crashed spacecraft. They rescued a woman from the wreckage, who was later taken in and treated by UGM. Meanwhile, the pilot of the mysterious fighter jet was confirmed to be an Alien Galagala. UGM began tracking the whereabouts of the Galagala alien. The girl woke up but had lost her memory and was named Ryoko Hoshi by Captain Kazuki Oyama.

Emi was kidnapped by King Galtan.

Emi then took on the task of caring for Ryoko, hoping she would regain her memory soon, and they gradually became close friends. As a token of gratitude, Ryoko presented Emi with a bracelet as a gift. However, while Emi was out buying fruit, she was attacked and kidnapped by Alien Galagala. The reason was that Alien Galagala mistook her for Ryoko, the girl they were pursuing, upon seeing the bracelet she was wearing. While imprisoned in the hideout, Emi learned from King Galtan that Ryoko was actually Princess Yullian from the Land of Light.

Meanwhile, Takeshi and his team, who had been searching for Emi, also came under attack by Alien Galagala. This led to Ryoko recalling her identity as Yullian. Yullian had come to Earth to convey the urgent message to Takeshi that "Alien Galagala intends to kill Ultraman 80". Subsequently, they reached the cave where Emi was being held, but Emi was unable to move as she was being used as a hostage. During this time, Emi also learned that Takeshi was actually Ultraman 80, but when she discovered that Alien Galagala was targeting him with a spear from his blind spot, she disregarded the danger and rushed to shield Takeshi from the attack.

Emi's death.

After being struck by the spear, Emi suffered fatal injuries. She pleaded with Takeshi to defeat King Galtan. Takeshi then transformed into Ultraman 80 and defeated him. After Emi, who was injured, was brought back by Takeshi, he confessed to her the fact that he had been hiding his identity as Ultraman 80 all along. However, Emi responded that she had already suspected it. In her final moments, Emi requested Ryoko to join UGM in her place and passed away as the sun set. Takeshi and Ryoko promised to fight for the peace of the Earth in response to Emi's last wish. The Female Warrior of Ultra

After Emi tragically passed away on the front lines, UGM, still mourning her loss, Sera and Yuriko Kosaka secretly requested UNDA's scientific team to create Android Emi.

When UGM returned without relying on 80 to defeat Margodon, they were greeted by a smiling Android Emi. Sera and Yuriko introduced her existence to the team, and Android Emi introduced herself in synthesized voice. She eventually joined the farewell party for Takeshi and Ryoko along with other members.Ah! The Giraffes and Elephants Turned to Ice!!
