From November 1, 2013, Ultraman toys were given out in Happy Meals for the very first time, as well as Ultlive DVD (ウルトライブDVD, Urutoraibu DVD), a DVD containing a recap of Ultraman Ginga, an episode of Mega Monster Rush Ultra Frontier and quizzes. Ultra Frontier cards of the three main characters were also available on November 10 and 11. To celebrate, the first episode of Ultraman Ginga was made available on YouTube for free, with 1,000 viewers randomly being selected to win a vinyl toy.[1][2][3][4][5] Tamagotchi toys were available at the same time.[6]

2014[]

From April 18, 2014, eight more Ultraman toys were given out in Happy Meals. A 20-page booklet called Ultra Encyclopedia (ウルトラ大図鑑, Urutora Daizukan) detailing Ultraman Ginga S and Ultraman Victory was also available on April 19 and 20, as well as an original Mega Monster Rush Ultra Frontier card from April 26 to 29.[7] Aikatsu toys were given out at the same time.[8][9]

In 2021, six unique Ultraman toys were included in Happy Meals across three periods. The first three toys were available from November 19-25, the next three from November 26 to December 2, then all six from December 3. On November 20 and 21, Ultraman: The 5 Challenge Stickers (ウルトラマン 5つのチャレンジシー, Urutoraman Itsutsu no Charenji Shī) was also included, a sheet listing five challenges with stickers to mark them as complete.[10] Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure toys were available at the same time.[11]

Additionally, each Happy Meal included a code that could entered on TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION for special rewards, which were a bonus movie titled Ultra Heroes: Special Movie 2021 (ウルトラヒーローズ スペシャルムービー2021, Urutora Hīrōzu Supesharu Mūbī 2021), entries to a digital picture book and a chance to win Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga merchandise.[10][12] Three people could win Prize A, a Swirling Transformation DX Nursedessei and IMAGINATION pin badge, and ten people could win Prize B, two soft vinyl toys out of ten and the same pin badge.[10][12]

Chicken Tatsuta Collaboration[]

From April 29, 2022 to late May, two versions of the Chicken Tatsuta (チキンタツタ, Chikin Tatsuta), a fried chicken burger sold at McDonald's in Japan at select times, were made available. The first, titled Return of Chicken Tatsuta (帰ってきた「チキンタツタ) was the original Chicken Tatsuta with Return of Ultraman-themed packaging, while the second, called Shin Tatsuta: A Miyazaki Speciality, Chicken Nanban Tartar (シン・タツタ 宮崎名物チキン南蛮タルタル」が, Shin Tatsuta Miyazaki Meibutsu Chikin Nanban Tarutaru) came with tartar sauce and promoted Shin Ultraman.[13] Additionally, red and black pepper powder for fries and four different drinks with Shin Ultraman cups were sold, two of which were exclusive to Aomori Prefecture, while the other two were exclusive to Kumamoto Prefecture.[14]

Four campaigns were also run on Twitter which required users to follow the McDonald's Japan account and post with a special hashtag, with 100 winners receiving a 1,000 yen McDonald's gift card.[13][14]

Commercial[]

A TV commercial called Chicken Tatsuta: "Ultra Delicious" Edition (チキンタツタ「ウルトラうまい」篇, Chikin Tatsuta "Urutora Umai"-hen) advertising the campaign began airing from April 19.[13][15] It uses the Return of Ultraman theme song, Kaettekita Ultraman. Six shorts connecting to the commercial were posted on the McDonald's Japan Twitter leading up to its airing:
