Mountain Gulliver 5 (マウンテンガリバー5号, Maunten Garibā Go-gō), abbreviated as MG-5, is a robot used by Super GUTS to combat a Space Pirate threat. However, the whole event was all a figment of Shin Asuka's dream, and therefore the robot, presumably, isn't real.

Subtitle: MG-0005-RX

Conception

Etymology

Mountain Gulliver 5's name comes from a rejected name of Ultraman Tiga that GUTS vice-captain Seiichi Munakata suggested. The name also comes from the Irish novel Gulliver's Travels. The model name MG5 also comes from a cosmetic company which actor Jiro Dan used to work for.

The "II-V" designation for the variant in Ultra Heroes EXPO 2022 Summer Festival represents the digits 2 and 5 separately, which can be combined into 25, referencing the 25th anniversary of Ultraman Dyna (2022).

Design

Mountain Gulliver 5 is designed by Hiroshi Maruyama. Befitting its allusion to the cosmetic company above, Mountain Gulliver 5 has checkered patterns on its legs, as a reference to said cosmetic products' packaging pattern.

Mountain Gulliver II-V is designed by Shoma Muto, who is also the designer of the Giants of Darkness in Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga.[1]

History

Ultraman Dyna

Appearing in Asuka's dream, Mountain Gulliver 5 was a robot seeming placed and built by pre-GUTS member and now-TPC professor: Masami Horii. During Asuka and Mai's trip to Mars to pick up Nakajima's Spacium Cannon, the base came under attack, and Mai was sent out in the Mountain Gulliver 5 to combat the forces, aided by several squadrons of GUTS Eagle Gamma and even the Space Pirate Ship Akebonomaru in all out space warfare.

Eventually, Alien Reguran General Zoaka lost his patience and sent out the "comet bomb", which shattered a large comet, creating large amounts of derbis that will crash onto Mars, as well as a larger chunk with a diameter of 3 kilometers that will seemingly obliterate Mars. Asuka called upon Ultraman Dyna to combat the Reguran airships while Mai used up her first shot on the Spacium Cannon, blasting the comet.

However, the shot was not enough and the Spacium Cannon was destroyed. Mountain Gulliver 5 pulled back, and Ultraman Dyna alone tried to push the meteor back. Mountain Gulliver 5 later joined Dyna's cause but was called away by Asuka (in Dyna). However, Dyna was then struck unconscious by a meteor and was being shaken by Mai before Asuka (real world) woke up and realized that the rocket they were supposed to board has launched without them. "So, you've awoken. You haven't been given a heart of pure good, nor pure evil. Think for yourself. Decide for yourself. What path will your machine heart take? That's my final experiment. I hope you can do it..."

―Mountain Gulliver II-V's creator

After awakening in the darkness, the robot was ordered by its creator through a voice recording to decide how to live. They came across Kanata Asumi and HANE2, who had just entered its universe from a wormhole, playing a musical chime as they approached. Kanata pitied the robot after they explained they had no name or idea of who they are, and allowed it to join them. He named the robot "Mountain Gulliver II-V" after a robot anime he watched as a child, writing it on their chestplate. As they continued to explore their new surroundings, II-V took note of Kanata's optimistic personality.

Ultraman Decker was soon pulled into a battle against Alien Reiblood's army of monsters with Ultraman Geed. II-V was confused by Kanata's determination to help protect a universe he has nothing to do with, but he was able help the robot comprehend the concept of justice. When more combatants appeared and attacked the two Ultras, II-V, believing that justice is protecting those who are hurt, entered combat mode and began to fight back with considerable skill, utilizing a beam attack called the Spacium Cannon and stealing Zamsher's sword in the process. Decker was shocked by this, so II-V revealed their past, that they were created by a mysterious scientist who was gone when they awoke, only leaving behind a voice recording. A blue bird flying by then landed on the robot's shoulder, and Decker taught II-V that the bird was one of the life forms they protected.

They were then interrupted by Reiblood, who proclaimed that goodness wasn't the only option, afflicting the robot with a small "Heart of Evil", which it successfully installed before starting to attack Decker and Geed. Reiblood stated that he had not taken control of II-V like he had for his monster army, but merely triggered their sense of evil, and that they had chosen evil on their own. When Reiblood revealed that this was the same thing he did to Ultraman Belial years ago, Geed became invigorated, and tried to assure Decker he could still teach II-V what a heart of good is, but was impaled by the II-V's blade mid-sentence and thusly defeated.

Decker begged II-V to stop, though they reasserted that being evil was its own choice, now having learnt what good and evil are. Decker refuted that it's not about definitively deciding to be either good or evil, but bettering yourself over time, saying that that is how their creator wanted them to live. By recalling the scientist's words, and with a strike to the heart from Decker, II-V reverted to their original state. But before they could speak, they stood in the way of two powerful beams from Sphere-Zetton and Sphere-Eleking to protect Decker, taking considerable damage. Concluding that they would enact their own vision of justice, II-V made a final stand against the two monsters. Decker was unable to do anything but watch as the robot was brutally beaten, with one of its arms ripped off in the process. In their final moments, II-V declared they would protect all life, before vanishing into an explosion.

Despite II-V appearing to be destroyed, an unexpected Spacium Cannon attack struck Reiblood and Spheresaurus during their final battle against Decker, Geed, Zero and Taiga, shocking the Ultras. Because of this, Decker believed II-V must have survived after all.

After Reiblood is defeated and peace is restored to the universe, II-V's musical chime is heard as blue birds fly by. NEW GENERATION THE LIVE: Ultraman Decker STAGE 2
