"No matter how much the SSSP tries, it's always Ultraman who defeats the enemies. No matter what new weapons I make, they are usually useless. No, not just new weapons; even we SSSP feels useless next to Ultraman!"

―Ide to Hayata, realizing most of their victories are achieved by Ultraman, The Little Hero

Mitsuhiro Ide (井手 光弘イデ・ミツヒロ, Ide Mitsuhiro) is a scientist, and the primary ordnance-and-munitions inventor of the SSSP.

Personality[]

"It's always like this for victims. Only the words are elegant."

―Ide lament for Jamila alone, My Home Is Earth

Ide is very clever and has been shown to put his passion into creating the SSSP personnel's weapons. He is the most carefree of the SSSP's main personnel but is also a little cowardly when confronted with aliens. He is the source of most of the show's comic relief.

However, he also has shown a sentimental and compassionate side. The most evident case would be his apparent disturbance upon learning the truth about Jamila, leading him to refuse to partake in the operation to exterminate it and resent the higher-ups' decision to keep it silent, auguring they may one day become the victim if Jamila's tragedy repeat. In conversations, he has also mentioned the experience of his mother's passing during his childhood, which has allowed him to approach everything with a more sensitive perspective.Phantom of the Snow Mountains

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 024

Ide's first appearance.

As the weapons technology specialist of the SSSP team, Ide is responsible for the maintenance of daily equipment within the team and the development of new weapons. He frequently plays a crucial role in missions and often participates as a frontline member along with other team members in investigations, patrols, countermeasures, and intelligence tasks.

One day, when an object emitting mysterious and intense electromagnetic waves was observed, it disappeared near the Gotenyama Mountain Science Center. SSSP dispatched agents to investigate the Science Center and found that the employees there had stopped moving, frozen like statues. Additionally, unusual electromagnetic waves were detected. Due to signs of alien involvement, SSSP and the Earth Defense Force convened a defense meeting. However, without knowing the true identity of the aliens or the location of their spaceship, humans couldn't devise any countermeasures.

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 027

Ide felt frightened by Alien Baltan's illusion ability.

Captain Muramatsu suggested that if they could ascertain the hostile aliens' objectives, humans could satisfy their demands to send them back to space. Therefore, Ide, who is proficient in intergalactic languages, was sent to the Science Center for communication. However, when Ide tried to summon the aliens in intergalactic language, they appeared. Feeling frightened, Ide couldn't utter a word, leading to ineffective communication between the two sides. The aliens then guided him to the rooftop and used the body of the previously captured Arashi to communicate with Ide. During the exchange, Ide and the arriving Hayata learned the aliens' identity as the Alien Baltan and their conspiracy. After witnessing Hayata miraculously survive a fall from a building, Ide initially began to suspect Hayata's true identity was Ultraman. Later, when he returned to his dorm to sleep, he developed a lump in his right eye from falling off the bed.Shoot the Invaders!

Since then, whenever there are moments of miraculous return for Hayata, he also finds himself questioning the relationship between Hayata and Ultraman.Cry of the Mummy

In the Middle East, there are frequent incidents of oil field fires and explosions of oil tankers at sea. At the same time, mysterious blue lights have been observed along the coast of the Keihin Industrial Zone in Japan. Incidents have occurred where oil tankers were attacked by monsters and caught fire. The SSSP launched an investigation. While Ide and the Arashi team continued their patrol, a tanker transporting oil exploded at sea. Pestar appeared from the seabed. Pestar attacks oil tankers and trucks in search of food, which is oil.

After feeding, Pestar immediately disappears. The SSSP speculated that Pestar's body is filled with a large amount of oil, meaning that Pestar itself is a powerful bomb. After evacuating refinery workers and designating the Tokyo Bay area as a restricted zone, Ide was sent to attack Pestar aboard the Jet Beetle. When helicopters dropped barrels containing gasoline, Pestar was lured to the surface. After confirming that Pestar had consumed the gasoline, Muramatsu instructed Ide to launch the attack. However, Pestar did not explode but instead submerged into the sea. Later, Pestar emerged near the shore. In a moment of panic while waiting for the attack command, Ide accidentally fired a missile. Provoked by the attack, Pestar became agitated and started spewing fire, leading Pestar to land at the refinery.

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 028

Ide blamed himself for causing the refinery fire due to his mistake, which led him to rush into the blaze in an attempt to extinguish it.

Although the attack by the Jet VTOL stopped Pestar's movements, the area around the refinery became a sea of flames. The fire continued to spread, igniting other oil tanks, causing severe damage to the refinery's operations. Feeling guilty, Ide believed that he needed to take responsibility for his mistake and attempted to extinguish the fire by running into the flames with light gear. However, with the help of Ultraman, he was rescued. Oil S.O.S.

World leaders are about to hold an international peace conference. However, there have been several incidents of airplanes and ships suddenly exploding recently, and all the victims were important figures attending the international peace conference. Believing that someone is trying to sabotage the World Peace Conference, the Paris headquarters of the SSSP dispatched Alan to the Japan branch to conduct an investigation.

During the investigation of a suspicious rocket, the SSSP discovered that the rocket was rendered invisible through high-speed rotation. Ide developed three spectrum rays. The SSSP launched another attack and hit the invisible rocket, revealing its form. The Science Special Search Party shot down the rocket, and then a monster appeared. After being attacked by the SSSP, the monster fled.

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 029

Upon learning the truth about Jamila, Ide got into an argument with Arashi because he didn't want to fight against Jamila.

Under Alan's explanation, members of the SSSP learned Jamila's story. Due to an accident while aboard a manned satellite launched by a certain country, Jamila went missing and survived on a harsh planet to become a monster. To seek revenge on his abandoned homeland and all humanity, he modified a spaceship to return to Earth. As a scientist, Ide sympathized with Jamila and expressed, "Perhaps one day, when we work on the front lines, we will also become like Jamila," and refused to fight. However, despite this, the Paris headquarters still ordered Jamila to be defeated as a monster before the truth was revealed.

The next day, Jamila appeared again. The SSSP used flamethrowers to attack, but it had no effect on Jamila. Jamila continued to spew flames, burning down houses as it moved forward. Hayata and Ide went to rescue a boy who was trying to release his pigeons. However, gazing at Jamila, Ide couldn't help but cry out, "Jamila! Have you lost your humanity?!" However, Jamila's quest for revenge did not cease, as he appeared at the venue of an international peace conference. The SSSP employed artificial rain bombs to soak Jamila's body with water. Unlike the previous fiery attacks, Jamila began to experience pain. Subsequently, after engaging in a fierce battle with Ultraman, Jamila met his demise. The SSSP erected a monument at the venue to commemorate Jamila's sacrifice for humanity.

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 030

Ide looked at Jamila's grave and fell into a cynical contemplation.

Ide felt enraged by the establishment of this monument. As the SSSP and relevant personnel rushed to the venue, Ide stood alone, gazing at the monument. He felt it was a unilateral act that failed to consider Jamila's feelings and ultimate fate. In his mind, he still heard Jamila's sorrowful voice. My Home Is Earth

In the toy section of the Ginza department store, Pigmon suddenly appeared, sparking panic among the locals. However, Pigmon didn't engage in widespread destruction; instead, it fell asleep right where it stood. Meanwhile, the SSSP received notification and promptly arrived at the scene.

However, over the past few days, Ide had been pulling all-nighters developing a translation device for deciphering the language of monsters analyzed by Dr. Kanda. This led him to forget about repairing the weapons commissioned by Arashi, despite Fuji's defense of Ide citing his passion for work. Nevertheless, considering Ide's fervor for his tasks, his actions seemed somewhat peculiar.

Mitsuhiro Ide HD 031

Ide was troubled by the idea that "if Ultraman existed, then humanity wouldn't need the SSSP." This thought left he in a state of inner conflict.

That evening, Hayata, concerned about Ide, brought some refreshments and attempted to lend him an ear. Consequently, Ide confided in him about his troubles. He expressed doubts about the SSSP's effectiveness in defeating monsters in the long run, feeling that Ultraman ultimately held the key to victory, leading him to question the purpose and existence of their work. He posed the question, "If Ultraman exists, does the SSSP still need to exist?" Hayata mentioned the past achievements of the SSSP and their role in saving Ultraman, yet Ide's concerns persisted.

On the following day, Dr. Kanda completed the analysis of Pigmon's monster language. Ide's translation device was also successfully completed, and it began translating and broadcasting Pigmon's voice. Pigmon conveyed information regarding a crisis faced by the SSSP. It was reported that a monster named Geronimon would resurrect 60 monsters previously defeated by Ultraman and the SSSP, launching a massive attack. Furthermore, these monsters were expected to land in Japan within 5 hours. Pigmon emphasized the urgent need to defeat Geronimon before it's too late.

Guided by Pigmon, the SSSP quickly rushed to Oiwayama, where the monsters were gathering, and initiated attacks against them. However, Ide still held onto the belief that "Ultraman will come to save us" and didn't take the battle seriously.

However, as Dorako closed in on Ide, Hayata took out the Beta Capsule, but considering Ide's situation, he decided not to transform temporarily. Just then, Pigmon, worried about Ide, emerged from the Jet VTOL and, in an attempt to protect Ide, caught Dorako's attention. Dorako aimed its attack towards Pigmon, striking it down with its arms. Pigmon ultimately passed away in Hayata's arms. Ide realized his mistake, acknowledging that Pigmon sacrificed itself for humanity, and after being reprimanded by Hayata, he came to his senses and defeated Dorako.

As Ultraman initiated the battle, Ide launched the new weapon, Spark 8, attacking Geronimon who was held by Ultraman. After the event concluded, the SSSP bestowed upon Pigmon the title of honorary SSSP member and paid tribute to this little hero with a moment of silence. The Little Hero

Ide bids farewell to Ultraman who left Earth.

During the mission to combat Zetton, Ide and the other members received orders from the Paris headquarters to intercept the unidentified enemies entering the atmosphere. However, upon returning to the base, they discovered it was under attack, putting them in a dire situation. After Ultraman was defeated by Zetton, Dr. Iwamoto entrusted Ide and Arashi with a new prototype weapon called the "Pencil Bomb". Together, they launched the Pencil Bomb at Zetton, causing it to explode and allowing humanity to achieve victory with their own hands. The SSSP witnessed the arrival of the emissary Zoffy from the Land of Light, bidding farewell to Ultraman and Zoffy, who were about to leave Earth and return to the Land of Light.Farewell, Ultraman

Ultraman Kaiju Legend: The 40 Year Old Truth[]

Ultraman Kaiju Densetsu- 40 Years of Truth HD

Ide and SSSP members 40 years later.

After the SSSP was absorbed into the Earth Defense Force, Ide joined the organization and became active on the front lines. Thirty years later, the death of Captain Muramatsu deeply saddened the SSSP members. Despite their activities expanding globally, they failed to reunite at Captain Muramatsu's funeral.

Forty years later, Ide still worked within the organization. He received an anonymous letter, hoping that he could visit Captain Matsumura's former residence for a meeting, allowing him to reunite with his former comrades. He and Fuji speculated that the letter might be from Hayata, believing that he could be intending to reveal his true identity as Ultraman. This speculation arose from the observation that whenever Hayata was absent during past battles, Ultraman would appear. However, Hayata considered himself as "possibly" being Ultraman, now just an elderly person.

After taking a group photo with Captain Muramatsu's memorial portrait, the members of SSSP left Captain Muramatsu's home.Ultraman Kaiju Legend: The 40 Year Old Truth

Revive! Ultraman[]

In another timeline of the original series, one month after Ultraman's defeat by Zetton, as the SSSP's strength gradually increased, members began advocating that "Ultraman is no longer needed".

One day, Ide suddenly recounted a dream he had, where monsters were about to launch a full-scale attack on Earth, and this dream repeated twice. Hayata noticed the connection between Ide's dreams and the impending monster attack, leading him to suspect that Ide might also be a hero from outer space. To support Ultraman, Ide specially developed an energy supplement, drawing inspiration from the concept of humans consuming energy drinks when fatigued.

Upon discovering the mysterious space force, Ide joined the team in providing support. However, the Alien Zetton seized the opportunity to attack the headquarters once again. After Alien Zetton was defeated, the sound it emitted became the signal for the monsters to launch a full-scale attack. Subsequently, Ide actively participated in frontline missions to combat the monster threat.

When Ultraman ultimately couldn't defeat Zetton, Ide handed the energy supplement to Arashi for firing, successfully restoring Ultraman's strength. As Zetton was defeated, the members of SSSP cheered jubilantly. However, until the end, whether Ide's dreams were truly precognitive remained uncertain. Revive! Ultraman

Ultraman Mebius: Anderes Horizont[]

Although he never made an appearance in the novel, Ide was mentioned by Chief Maintenance Araiso, who has looked him up with great respect and admiration during his days as a rookie mechanic of SSSP. He was described as a "Genius," "A truly brilliant man," and even jokingly suggested "Himself must be an alien" by the latter.

Ide's Mars 133 was regarded as the first METEOR developed of all time despite the majority believing it to be the Magma Riser; also, an improved version of the Barrier Machine he created during the battle against Dodongo would be adapted on Ultra Guard's Pointer. In addition, it explained the fact that all his inventions were handmade products with delicate structures, making them unsuitable for mass production lines. Thus, most of his marvelous creations never made their way to subsequent defense teams.Ultraman Mebius: Anderes Horizont
