Mons-Ahgar fights Ultraman Dyna

Mons-Ahgar was a biological weapon created by a race of extinct aliens and kept in a blue capsule. These aliens kept their weapon of mass destruction on a wandering planet by the name of Merani. The aliens then used holograms to create the illusion of lush forests and pure air to lure other aliens in and eliminate them with Mons-Ahgar. As a result of this subterfuge, multiple alien races declared war on the Merani, triggering a conflict that spanned whole galaxies. At the end of the war, Mons-Ahgar's creators were rendered extinct, having lost the war they started. With no one to control it, Mons-Ahgar was left dormant on the planet when it traveled into the Solar System, thus alerting TPC who then sent Super GUTS to investigate the planet in hopes of it being a refuge for mankind in the future.

It was there that Asuka and Nakajima were led by Hanejiro to an underground facility and discovered the complicated mechanisms, still in use, that disguised the planet. While Asuka and Nakajima were in that underground chamber, Ryo and Kariya discover a plain filled with crashed UFOs. The disguise was lifted, and a mechanism released Mons-Ahgar. Mons-Ahgar then crashed the underground chamber, which trapped Asuka. Nakajima, Ryo, and Kariya then returned to the GUTS Eagle and opened fire, but could not even dent the beast. Asuka was hit and was stuck under rubble while dropping his Lieflasher. With the help of Hanejiro, who pushed the Lieflasher with its mouth, Asuka transformed into Ultraman Dyna.

As Dyna fought, he noticed that Hanejiro was pointing towards a projection of Mons-Ahgar, to alert Dyna of the monsters weak point, the nerve cluster atop its head. With that notion, Dyna transformed into Strong Type and jumped into space. As Mons-Ahgar looked up, Dyna kicked downward, and shattered Mons-Ahgar's brain case. With his brain demolished, Mons-Ahgar fell and burned away. Planet Merani was set to self-destruct when Mons-Ahgar was been defeated, and so, the GUTS Eagle took off, and returned to Earth with Asuka and Hanejiro.

Monsaga II

Mons-Ahgar Ⅱ

Mons-Ahgar II (モンスアーガーII, Monsu Āgā Tsū) was a beast captured by Gregore on the fourth planet Merani and was brought with him to Earth as a training target and to show Ultraman Dyna his power.

Mons-Ahgar Ⅱ is a biological weapon created by the exact same alien race on the fourth Merani out of many. Mons-Ahgar Ⅱ came into the possession of Gregore and had its weak point reinforced, making Mons-Ahgar almost completely invincible. Gregore sent Mons-Ahgar down via a dimensional vortex into Gregore's match ring set on Earth. There, he was confronted by Gregore, disguised as Ultraman Dyna, and held up a fight. The imitator soon breaks Mons-Ahgar's neck, showing Super GUTS his power. Then Mons-Ahgar fell to the ground, where it died and burned away. Fight! Dyna vs. Dyna

Mons-Ahgar in Decker

Mons-Ahgar as portrayed in Ultraman Decker.

Mons-Ahgar is a series of civilization destroying monster weapons that are commercially available in outer space, that were sold by the Merani race. One particular Mons-Ahgar was sent to Earth 1,300 years prior to the series where its capsule was buried underground, waiting for the time to strike when Earth's society has developed to the era of space exploration. At that time, locals of the nearby area mistook Mons-Ahgar's capsule as the Aga Daimyojin and revered it by building the Aga Shrine.

Fast forward in the present day, the place where Mons-Ahgar was buried on becomes the Yunohana Hot Spring resort and its surroundings turned into the Tochinoki City. When the hot spring was cut off from the water vein, the mayor and the city's construction company decided to investigate the matter by using an excavation drill and found Mons-Ahgar's capsule. Soon after GUTS-Select arrived to investigate, the capsule released Mons-Ahgar from a puff of red smoke.

As Mons-Ahgar rampaged across the Tochinoki City, GUTS Falcon and GUTS Hawk try to distract the monster away from evacuating civilians. Ultraman Decker appeared and fought the monster after Kanata Asumi was shot down in the GUTS Falcon, but was unable to hit through its thick hide and its protective head case. During the battle, Mons-Ahgar's capsule emitted repeating signals that were translated from a space language, revealing its true nature as a monster weapon. After HANE2 combined the GUTS Hawk into GUTS Gryphon, Decker Strong Type shattered its head case for the former to open fire, causing Mons-Ahgar to explode. The Destructive Monster Awakens

Trivia

  • A new suit for Mons-Ahgar is built specifically for this reappearance, which got a lot of support from the production team to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ultraman Dyna. Takanori Tsujimoto also added that Mons-Ahgar has a lot of potential that it can be upgraded even more in the future.[1]
    • Additionally, Mons-Ahgar's reappearance is also to coincide with HANE2's screen-time, considering that HANE2's source of inspiration, Hanejiro, also debuted in the same episode as Mons-Ahgar from Dyna.[2]

Stats
  • Height: 65 m
  • Weight: 68,000 t
  • Origin: Planet Merani
  • Weakness:
    • The brain (blue portion of Mons-Ahgar's head) is linked to the Planet Merani and the most vulnerable part of his organ. Destroying it can cause the whole planet and itself to be destroyed.
    • In Decker, the Mons-Ahgar's protective head plate can be cancelled out by slapping both sides of its face, leaving the weakpoint vulnerable to attacks.
Powers and Weapons
  • Dense Reflective Skin: Mons-Ahgar's skin is so dense and thick, most beam attacks simply bounce off him, as shown by a GUTS fighter's laser fire, and later Dyna's Beam Slicer, which Mons-Ahgar caught with his hands and redirected.
  • Great Destruction Beam Shell (大破壊光弾, Dai Hakai Kōdan)/Red Destruction Beam Shell (赤色破壊光弾, Sekishoku Hakai Kōdan): Mons-Ahgar can generate and launch fireballs by charging up his body and releasing it in a massive blast through clasping its hands together.
ULTRA MONSTERS
  • Fire Destructive Bullet (火炎破壊弾, Kaen Hakai-dan): Mons-Ahgar can generate and launch fireballs through its mouth.
  • Armored Rush (アーマードラッシュ, Āmādo Rasshu): Mons-Ahgar performs continuous attacks with its own claws and tail.
Ultraman Decker
  • Capsule: Mons-Ahgar originally descended from Planet Merani to Earth from a small metallic capsule, which is both hard enough to survive atmospheric entry and fit enough to contain Mons-Ahgar, releasing the monster from a puff of red smoke.
  • Flame Stream: Mons-Ahgar can exhale a stream of fire, causing the surroundings to burn.
  • Protective Head Case: If an opponent targets its weakpoint, Mons-Ahgar can generate a steel plate around it to evade incoming attacks.

The three Mons-Ahgar toys (left to right: 1998, 2000, 2009)

Mons-Ahgar was released three times as an action figure by Bandai in their Ultra Monster Series. The first Mons-Ahgar was released in 1997 in conjunction with the release of his own episode. The figure (left on the photo) was made of red vinyl, but the droopy look of the eyes and the lack of detail made it a downer. However, the 2000 release would make the figure look better as it was more detailed and the eyes were not as "droopy" as before. The last release of the figure in the 2009 line was a huge improvement, as it now was made in mohagne vinyl (dark red, purple-ish). Detail-vise this figure improved all its predesscors lacked, but still did not fix the generations old problem of the weird pupil position, as all the Mons-Ahgar figures to date always had eyes that looked diagonally upward. The toys all measure 7 inches and a Mons-Ahgar II figure was never made nor released by Bandai or any other toy company to date.
