"His energy should be low by now!"
"It doesn't matter. For Asuka, that doesn't matter to him."

―Ryo answering Gondo after he questioning Asuka/Dyna's will to protect them.

Ryo Yumimura (ユミムラ・リョウ, Yumimura Ryō) is the tomboyish ace pilot of Super GUTS.

Personality

Ryo possesses an intelligent, courageous, and masculine personality, always leaving a strong impression of dignity. When provoked, she can quickly make decisive decisions, playing a pivotal role in missions, and demonstrating exceptional combat abilities.

However, in terms of interpersonal relationships, Ryo exhibits a polite and approachable side, getting along well with the members of Super GUTS. She strictly separates her work from her personal life and never interferes with personal matters while on duty. Nevertheless, on certain occasions, she also reveals a more feminine aspect, showcasing a diverse range of personality traits.

As part of her knowledge within New Frontiers, she is the most knowledgeable member of the team when it comes to mysticism. In events involving mysticism, she demonstrates a heightened level of insight and has, in several missions, been able to question and deduce the identity of the culprits behind the clues.

In the initial stages of the series, Ryo often felt anger towards Shin Asuka due to his unconventional yet vibrant and arrogant behavior. Conflicts between them were quite frequent. However, through shared combat experiences, they gradually came to understand each other's true selves and gradually developed mutual feelings of attraction. As the series progressed, Ryo's character underwent a transformation, becoming more patient and mature. As for Mai Midorikawa, she regards her as her own younger sister, and they share a deep emotional bond.

Ryo as a young child.

Some time ago, Ryo had lost her parents in an accident. Due to her being the only child in her family, she was adopted by her relatives as a foster child. Ultraman Dyna: Zero Drive Towards Tomorrow

Back in her childhood, she befriended a weak-willed boy named Hirao Teruhisa, and she always kept motivating him to overcome his fears of bullies by accepting their fight and pushing Hirao to the limit every time he was in despair.

As an adult, Ryo joined TPC and took on the role of a trainee at ZERO. During this time, she often heard about the legendary pilot named "Kazuma Asuka" and his experiences.

In 2012, Ryo, who was still a trainee at ZERO at the time, along with other trainees from the same period, was dispatched to assist GUTS in their mission to confront the Shibito-Zoiger armies at R'lyeh.Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey

Over the next two years, due to a proposed restructuring of the original GUTS, it evolved into a plan centered around the current trainees at ZERO to form a new GUTS. In 2014, Super GUTS was officially established, and Ryo joined as one of its inaugural members.

In 2017, Ryo and Kohda arrived together at ZERO to serve as special instructors for the final combat examination. They decided to recruit a new member to join Super GUTS. They learned from the head instructor that in the current final examination, two young individuals had scored the highest with 78 points: Shin Asuka and Takeru Fudo. Ryo had some reservations about Asuka, believing that he tended to disregard rules or act recklessly.

As part of the Super GUTS recruitment test, the space training involved every trainee riding GUTS Wings, differentiated only by various designs and color schemes for rookies and instructors. When each trainee was hit, they had to leave the battle. Despite Asuka's self-praise, which made her quite impatient, Ryo sensed incredible potential in this arrogant young individual.

Asuka employed an entirely unpredictable tactic. He released a large quantity of smoke from the thrusters in the combustion chamber, obstructing Ryo's line of sight. Asuka concealed himself within the smoke and then skillfully shot down Ryo's aircraft from directly below. This left Ryo in a state of utter bewilderment, muttering to himself in the face of such an audacious victory.

Subsequently, a colossal luminous Sphere appeared nearby, splitting into multiple smaller spheres and initiating an assault on nearby space stations and smaller spacecraft. Ryo's weaponry suffered some damage and became jammed, while Asuka skillfully evaded pursuit by two Spheres using his acrobatic flying techniques, simultaneously rescuing her. However, during this process, Asuka's aircraft was destroyed, but he miraculously survived and was rescued. As a result of his performance in this test, he was chosen as the new member of Super GUTS. Ryo officially assumed the role of Asuka's senior, assisting him in adapting to his career within Super GUTS.

Upon receiving the news of the destruction of the Mars base, everyone including Ryo, boarded GUTS Eagle and headed for Mars. Over the Mars base, Ryo engaged in a desperate battle with the cluster of spheres. Just as the battle reached a deadlock, a new giant of light emerged and successfully defeated Daranbia. Subsequently, following some debate within Super GUTS, this warrior was named Ultraman Dyna.A New Light (Part 1)

During a Zombayu attack incident, Zombayu's aerial maneuvers turned the entire town into a ghost town. Super GUTS responded immediately, formulating a strategic plan of action. However, while aboard GUTS Eagle Gamma, she noticed a child running towards Zombayu. Without hesitation, she rushed to rescue the child but was struck by Zombayu's beams during the process, causing her soul to be taken away.

Ryo's soul trapped in Zombayu appeared in front of Asuka and Kohda.

To save Ryo, Nakajima developed a protective soul barrier device. Asuka and Kohda boarded the specialized rescue ship Connelly 07 and ventured into Zombayu. When Zombayu suddenly activated and started moving, Ryo's soul appeared. She told them, "Right now, the spaceship named Zombayu is in a dormant state, and we will attempt to take it far away from Earth. As long as Zombayu exists, we cannot leave." She and other souls were willing to sacrifice themselves to protect Earth and implored Asuka and the others to leave Zombayu.

After an intense battle, Dyna unleashed a full-power attack, successfully defeating Zombayu, allowing Ryo's soul to return to her body, and restoring her consciousness. The Ghost Space Ship

On a construction site, a bronze disk believed to be from the first half of the 4th century was accidentally discovered. Originally, this disk was attributed to the legendary creature "Mozui," thought to exist before the Kofun era. Ryo's senior, Dr. Touko Ayano, an expert in bronze disk research, was in charge of the study. However, during her research, she realized that the disk was, in fact, a bronze mirror with ancient inscriptions on its side that read, "Do not touch this; we are leaving Mozui here." She became aware that the seal had been broken and believed that Mozui's target was Ryo, a "modern soldier," issuing a warning.

Upon learning the news, Ryo hurried to the research institute in an attempt to rescue Ayano. However, when she saw Mozui, she was momentarily paralyzed with fear. Ultimately, Ryo discovered Ayano, who was severely injured and in a coma.

After reviewing the research data left by Ayano, Ryo and the others learned that Mozui feeds on the "fear" of soldiers. So, they ventured to the high-rise building where "Pond" was located at night and witnessed a colossal Mozui emerging from a skyscraper. Hibiki told Ryo that soldiers who give up all their fear would only bring death and destruction and encouraged her not to be ashamed of her fear.

Despite the attack on GUTS Eagle Gamma, piloted by Ryo, by Mozui, resulting in a crash, with Dyna's assistance, Ryo eventually mustered the courage to launch a missile from the ground, successfully defeating Mozui alongside Dyna. Afterwards, she received the good news that Ayano was safe and sound.Soldier of Tsukuyo

During a certain incident, abnormal activities occurred in the Antarctic seabed, prompting the NSP Campanella to initiate its induction command and dispatch the Clarkov NF-3000 to the Antarctic to continue its mission. However, Mai who was in charge of this mission, lacked prior experience with frontline tasks, causing her anxiety. Throughout this mission, Ryo was constantly comforting her. They both headed to an underwater base in the Antarctic to investigate the situation.

Sufume successfully hijacked the Clarkov and attempted to use it to guide the NSP Campanella from the vicinity of Jupiter's experimental airspace to over the Antarctic. There, it planned to use super-high temperatures of 6,000 degrees to melt the Antarctic ice, causing the entire landmass to sink beneath the seabed. During this process, Dyna came under continuous attack from Reicubas, including super-high-temperature flames and super-low-temperature gases, which ultimately left it completely encased in ice.The Clarkov Won't Surface! Part 1

Faced with this crisis, Ryo began to devise a final operational plan, which involved sending Mai into the Clarkov to regain control of the system by reaching the terminal in D7. However, the only viable means of entry was to ride a guided missile into the drainage ditch of Zone D, making this a mission only Mai could undertake. However, Mai adamantly refused Ryo's operational plan out of fear.

Ryo Yumimura 017

Ryo sang "Kimi Dake o Mamoritai" to comfort the frightened Mai.

After an intense argument, Mai expressed that she felt she wasn't qualified to be a part of Super GUTS. It was at this moment that Ryo abruptly slapped her, cutting off her words, and said, "I'm afraid too. I'm scared of fighting. But this is something you have to overcome on your own!" She attempted to encourage Mai to brave the mission by sharing her own experiences of facing life-and-death situations multiple times. Finally, she hummed "Kimi Dake o Mamoritai," trying to convey strength in the confined space to uplift Mai's spirits.

Finally, after a successful infiltration, Mai under Ryo's encouragement and guidance, managed to reclaim the hijacked computer, repelling Sufume, and successfully resolved this incident. The Clarkov Won't Surface! Part 2

A mysterious meteorite fell in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture. Ryo's childhood friend, Teruhisa, was observing the stars at an observatory at the time when he suddenly saw the meteorite streaking through the sky and breaking apart. He informed Ryo of this event. However, Ryo refused to listen to Teruhisa and stated that TPC had already confirmed the meteorite's presence, and it had burned up in the atmosphere.

However, on that night, the people of Matsumoto City came under attack by monsters and aliens. According to witness testimonies, the attackers appeared to be the same monsters and aliens that Dyna and Super GUTS had defeated before. When the team members arrived at the scene, they witnessed the presence of various types of aliens. Ryo, on the other hand, discovered a mysterious black flower and collected it. Upon examination, it was determined to be a space plant. Meanwhile, Teruhisa reported to Ryo that he had found a mysterious girl and a white flower.

Ryo and Teruhisa saw the phantom disappear with Mozui.

Ryo paid another visit to Teruhisa. She mentioned that although people had seen monsters and aliens, she suspected that only Teruhisa had seen the girl. At the same time, the two encountered Mozui once again. The girl Teruhisa had seen reappeared and approached Mozui. When the girl made contact with Mozui, they seemed to disappear as if they canceled each other out. However, to Ryo, the person who walked toward Mozui appeared to be a boy, not a girl. It was determined that the white space plant seemed to have the effect of canceling out the illusions caused by the black space plant.

Meanwhile, a large number of elementary particles gathered in the center of Matsumoto City, forming Moruvaia. Super GUTS was deployed in response, with Ryo piloting Guts Eagle Alpha, loaded with MKⅡ missiles made from the essence extracted from the white plant. They successfully struck Moruvaia, causing it to lose its original form and transform into a white seed-like sphere. Ultimately, Dyna destroyed Moruvaia, and the black flowers on the ground disappeared. The Power of Thinking of You

One day, both Asuka and Ryo were captured by the Black Buster Corps led by TPC Staff Gondou while on a journey to Mars. He revealed to Ryo about Asuka's alter-ego as Dyna and his planned to used him to create Terranoid. Despite its success, due to his careless spending of energy, his Color Timer soon began to blink and he soon fell. Because there were still a few more Spheres left, the Spheres morphed him into his next form, Zeluganoid and attacked the TPC Mars Base.
