"These glasses are my big treasure."

―Konomi explaining her past

Konomi Amagai (アマガイ・コノミ, Amagai Konomi) is one of the main characters from the Ultraman Mebius. She is a member of GUYS and serves as an operator.

Personality[]

Konomi possesses an outgoing and kind-hearted personality. Despite potentially giving off an impression of gentleness, timidity, and susceptibility to fear on the surface, she harbors a resolute courage within her. This courage drives her to wholeheartedly dedicate herself to the mission of defending the Earth and humanity, standing no less capable than her peers within the team. Her inner determination provides her with a powerful strength beyond the surface impressions, making her an undeniable presence within the team.

Among her numerous qualities, Konomi's most striking trait is her innate ability to care for others. This compassion equips her with a keen perceptiveness, allowing her to intricately understand the thoughts and emotions of children, monsters, and even Ultraman. Her gentleness makes her a beloved and relied-upon figure among the Maquette Monsters, particularly Miclas and Lim Eleking. Due to her affable demeanor, she is the only member capable of effortlessly commanding Miclas. When the GUYS team engages in battles, especially when Miclas is involved, she never hesitates to take the front lines, guiding the team to victory with her resilience and intelligence.

However, within her, there exists a layer of self-doubt. It is precisely this internal challenge that propels her continual growth with the support of the GUYS team. As the series progresses, she gradually learns to accept herself and, with the encouragement and backing of her teammates, transforms into a confident individual capable of standing on her own.

Furthermore, her uniform stands in stark contrast to those of the other GUYS members, featuring a design that includes a mini skirt and knee-high socks. However, during combat, she switches to wearing form-fitting pants with knee protection.

History[]

Pre-Ultraman Mebius[]

Konomi as a child.

During Konomi's elementary school years, her wearing of glasses often made her the subject of ridicule among her classmates. However, with the support of her friend Jun Suzaki, Konomi never felt isolated, as Suzaki frequently stood by her side, providing protection. Throughout their time together, Suzaki not only encouraged Konomi to showcase more confidence but also praised the compatibility between her and her glasses. Suzaki even showed Konomi a Ultraman soft Vinyl, telling her that "partners of justice don't lie."

These words inspired Konomi, and from that moment on, regardless of any mockery she faced, she was resolute not to be swayed by it. Suzaki's encouragement brought her immense courage and strength.

However, due to her father's job transfer, Konomi had to move away from the town. At the moment of departure, as the car drove past the riverbank, Konomi saw Suzaki standing there by the riverbank through the window, saying "go for it" to her. This encouraging phrase deeply imprinted on her heart. Since then, Konomi viewed her glasses as a "symbol of courage" and continued to wear them into adulthood.

In adulthood, Konomi made the decision to pursue her own aspirations and become a childcare provider. After diligently obtaining her GUYS certification, she joined a childcare center called "Miyama Nursery school (みやま保育園, Miyama hoikuen )" as a caregiver. This choice was not only a pursuit of her own dreams but also a continuation of her gratitude towards the past and her friends.

Konomi's first appearance.

Currently, Konomi continues to work as a childcare provider. However, over the past 25 years, Earth has once again faced its first encounter with monster threats. During this crisis, she actively collaborated with other teachers to organize the evacuation of children. In an effort to save a rabbit trapped in the nursery school, she coincidentally crossed paths with individuals who would later become members of GUYS. With their assistance, she successfully rescued the rabbit and witnessed the emergence of Ultraman Mebius.A Fateful Encounter

After some time, Konomi crossed paths once again with the young man she had encountered during the initial evacuation: "Mirai Hibino." He invited her to join GUYS, but she declined, stating her desire to obtain certification and become an childcare provider. However, through Mirai's persistence and persuasion, she and the other members visited the Phoenix Nest Base. There, she witnessed Ryu's upright character and his determination in establishing a professional team. Realizing the necessity of her contribution, Konomi decided to collaborate with others, assisting him in the repainting of Gun Phoenix.

Challenges soon arose. When Gudon was reported in the city, the team hesitated. In this critical moment, Sakomizu provided GUYS equipment, inspiring them. Ultimately, their trust and cooperation led Konomi to make the resolute decision to join the GUYS team. As Ultraman Mebius and GUYS successfully defeated Gudon, she experienced the joy of victory for the first time. Our Wings

However, due to her temporary absence from the nursery school, bidding farewell to the children left her feeling a hint of melancholy.Only One Life

In the series, she primarily takes on responsibilities within the base, handling tasks related to operational coordination and intelligence analysis. On her days off, she engages in teaching at a nursery school.

While GUYS was conducting a test operation for the capsule monster Miclas, Konomi with her gentle nature, kindly encouraged and comforted the timid actions of Miclas. This earned Miclas's trust and solidified Konomi as the only member capable of controlling Miclas. However, during the real combat situation against Kelbim, Miclas was frightened by Kelbim's fierce appearance. This battle also marked Konomi's first involvement in combat, and the added psychological pressure caused her control over Miclas to fail on the spot.

As Konomi falls into frustration and depression, Mirai inspires her to regain her confidence by teaching her the "little magic" of "DYUWAH!".

Due to the severe damage inflicted on the city by this incident, Konomi faced criticism from Toriyama. This situation left her bewildered and disheartened, even considering leaving GUYS. However, as she stood disheartened by the pool at the Phoenix Nest Base, her glasses fell into the water. Luckily, Mirai arrived just in time. Not only did he help her retrieve her glasses, but he also shared a little magic to boost her courage – the gesture of putting on glasses with a triumphant "DYUWAH!" action.

Although Konomi's heart remained heavy, upon returning to the nursery school, she saw the drawings the children had made for her. Overwhelmed with guilt, she chose to leave the classroom and wept alone outdoors. Concerned for her, the other team members came to the nursery school to console her. With their encouragement, she found her strength again. Reminded by Mirai, Konomi realized the reason Miclas had chosen her was that she had already taken on the role of a "mother" figure in Miclas's eyes. Therefore, she decided not to run away anymore, instead, she chose to stand by Miclas's side as his supporter. This change opened up Miclas's heart and also helped Miclas continuously enhance its combat abilities, becoming an important ally to Mebius.Broken Bonds

In an effort to change her image and overcome the feelings of inner insecurity, Konomi once decided to take off her iconic glasses and use contact lenses instead. However, when she entered the GUYS base, only Sakomizu noticed Konomi's change. After the events involving the Oshima Comet, she chose to return to wearing her glasses and believed that glasses better suited her habits.A Sword Master from Space

In a conversation with Mirai, Konomi expressed her thoughts on Mebius to him.

As Mebius continued to protect the Earth, GUYS gradually began to feel that their team's presence seemed to be diminishing in importance. This feeling started to spread among the team members, causing everyone to feel discouraged. Mirai felt puzzled and frustrated by this situation. In order to help him understand the importance of trust, Sakomizu decided to have Konomi accompany Mirai to a nursery school for teaching activities.

During this special reunion, Konomi once again enjoyed joyful moments with the children. When Mirai asked her questions, Konomi offered a profound perspective: "Each child has a unique personality." She explained that if we approach children with the mindset of wanting to "teach them quickly," it might add unnecessary pressure to them. She candidly expressed that Mebius might already be carrying immense pressure and could even forget about GUYS's existence. This viewpoint led Mirai to a new understanding, prompting him to reconsider his connections with his partners and their original intentions.Pressure on Ultraman

During an incident of chasing the "Red Ghost" within the base, Mirai unexpectedly reunited with his childhood friend Suzaki. With an invitation to a date from Suzaki, Konomi decided to accept and, as a result, the members of GUYS launched a grand plan to assist her in a successful makeover for the date. Ultimately, she participated in the date with a completely refreshed appearance.

Konomi goes on a date with Suzaki after a long absence.

In her conversation with Suzaki, Konomi expressed her intention to continue supporting him. Suzaki then revealed that he had a "friend" who claimed to be a loyal fan of GUYS and wished to ask Konomi some questions. Konomi agreed to this request and consented to meet with this "friend".

The next day, Suzaki brought this "friend" to the GUYS base. However, it was discovered by George that this "friend" was actually a paparazzi journalist named Mitsuhiko Hirukawa. When Hirukawa and Suzaki's plot was exposed, Konomi realized she had been manipulated by Suzaki. Despite this, in the face of the clash between Suzaki and GUYS, Konomi insisted that people change over time, but the words Suzaki spoke to her when they were children would remain unchanged. For her, those words were a precious treasure. When an alarm for a suspected monster appearance was received, Konomi apologized to Suzaki and then returned to her post.

As Nova began wreaking havoc in the city, Konomi requested to use Miclas, but she was caught in the crossfire of Nova's attack. Seeing Konomi's fearless actions, Suzaki in the distance encouraged her not to give up. This renewed Konomi's confidence, and she once again witnessed the scene of Mebius successfully defeating Nova.

Later, Suzaki returned the image disc that Hirukawa had taken to Konomi, along with a letter: "Don't give up on your dreams, start anew. You gave me courage. Also, those glasses suit you very well."Konomi's Treasure

Upon receiving the order to return to the Land of Light, Mirai began preparing to bid farewell to his teammates. On an ordinary day off, Mirai visited the nursery school to assist Konomi with her work, and he even presented her with a talisman as a keepsake. Afterward, she expressed concern about Mirai's behavior and started to suspect if Mirai was about to leave GUYS.Day of Farewell

GUYS 30

All members of GUYS learn Mirai's true identity.

However, when Mirai was severely injured and fell into a coma during the Inpelaizer incident, Konomi and the other members were deeply concerned about his condition. Regarding the Inpelaizer incident, she actively sought records of past battles in hopes of finding a solution. However, when they confronted Inpelaizer once again, through Ryu's explanation, Konomi finally learned the truth about Mirai's identity as Ultraman Mebius. In a critical moment, she joined the other members in encouraging Mirai, motivating him to reengage in the fight. To protect Konomi and the others from enemy attacks, Mebius expanded his power, transforming into the "Mebius Burning Brave" form, ultimately achieving a new victory.

Subsequently, the members of GUYS engaged in negotiations with Ultraman Taro, expressing their determination to protect Earth alongside Mebius and strongly requesting that Taro rescind the order for Mebius to return to the Land of Light. From that point on, the members devoted themselves wholeheartedly and unitedly to assisting Mirai. The Flame of Promise

During the Grozam incident, Konomi along with Marina and Teppei, witnessed the scene where Grozam instantly froze Mebius. Due to all the male members of GUYS being injured and hospitalized during the previous Deathrem incident, and Teppei falling sick with a cold, GUYS' combat strength was severely weakened.

Konomi's conversation with Dan.

At this moment, as Mirai stood watching Mebius being encased in ice, Konomi felt extreme sorrow and even broke down in tears on the spot. It was then that a man named Dan Moroboshi appeared. He picked up Mirai's glasses and told him not to give up easily. In a conversation with Dan, he explained to her that the past Ultras had faced formidable enemies, but with the help of humans, they overcame the crisis and saved the Ultras. He encouraged Konomi that it is the support of their human partners that allows Ultras to be rescued, and assured her that there must be a way to save Mebius.

Subsequently, with the assistance of Asami Fujisawa, Konomi actively took on the role of the Gun Loader's driver and gunner in the mission named "Woman's Pride." Despite feeling extremely nervous, she bravely carried out the task with encouragement from Lim Eleking. When Marina successfully used the "Magnerium Medicalyzer" to rescue Mebius, Konomi then launched the "Maxwell tornado," assisting Mebius and Ultraseven in successfully defeating Grozam. The Immortal Grozam

As the final battle was about to commence, Konomi and the other team members learned that Hirukawa had disclosed Mirai's true identity as Ultraman Mebius to the Japanese media. Later, they also discovered that Sakomizu was actually the secret identity of the GUYS director. Faced with these revelations, Konomi and the team made a collective effort, determined to protect the Earth from the threat of Alien Empera.Advent of the Emperor -Final Trilogy I-

Konomi bids farewell to Mirai who left Earth.

During the decisive battle against Alien Empera, Konomi and the other GUYS members teamed up to confront the extraterrestrial threat. Despite facing multiple setbacks, with encouragement from the Ultra Brothers, they gradually realized their enduring influence. Ultimately, Konomi and her comrades united to transform, fusing their powers with Mebius, Hikari, and GUYS to become "Mebius Phoenix Brave." With Zoffy's assistance, they successfully defeated Alien Empera.

After the battle concluded, Konomi bid farewell to Mirai, who was preparing to return to the Land of Light, along with the rest of the team. With Earth fully restored to peace, she retired from the frontlines and returned to the nursery school to resume her role as a childcare provider, silently safeguarding the future of the children and the planet.Words from the Heart -Final Trilogy III-
